SF GIRL: a photo series

shot by Savanna Morales
written by Janelle
This was an incredibly fun photo shoot and I felt like a pixie for every minute of it. Savanna is such a great photographer she caught me twirling and prancing around making it look so whimsical and soft. The weather was unexpectedly gloomy, but we made it work capturing an eerie enchanted forest aesthetic. I think with being in front of a camera it’s important to really show yourself, find the light your smile and energy gives, it’s all about being comfortable with who you are. I know it can be hard being a girl when you want everything to come out perfect or to make sure you look perfect all the time, but as we grow up we realize there’s no such thing as perfection so it’s important to love yourself and who you are. I think women are more powerful and capable of greater things they are aware to be. Woman in general have this natural charisma and softness to them that makes us all angelic, but in all honesty  women are just angels. For women everywhere, I hope you go to sleep at night being proud of who you are, and adore every inch of yourself like no other. This ones for all the girls who are their own dream girl.

HOROSCOPE

LIBRA season!        On Monday, the new moon is in Libra and it looks super positive! Dwelling in peace should be one of the themes. All you need to do is commit to it!       Mercury is in Libra right now too! (Just until Oct 9) which is great! Libra and the planet of communication should go hand in hand and so, you might have seen rationality in your communication. You will not have a tendency to make quick decisions.         In other news, Venus is in Scoprio from Sept 9— Oct 31. This is the time when you will seek a deeper emotional bond. This will get extremely heated in most of our close relationships as our vulnerabilities seep out. Try to not be as impulsive and slip under this sensual spell, beware if you do, it might bring it down to all or nothing.  Mercury is in Libra right now too! (Just until Oct 9) which is great! WHAT THE 4TH MEANS TO ME AS A BLACK WOMAN

Happy 4th of July. America’s Independence Day. The day the nation officially separated itself from England and built its own empire on the basis of equality. The Founding Fathers stated: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”. What beautiful words, filled with hope and unfortunate false promises. In 1776, people of color were not free, not independent, and not even considered people. While today we are free, we are not treated equally due to prejudice and loopholes within legislation as well as social and cultural influences that still rot our society today as a result of slavery. Every year on the 4th of July I take time to read Frederick Douglass’ speech, “What to a Slave is the 4th of July”. Then, the 4th was “a day that reveals to him [slaves], more than all other days in the year, the gross i

WE WERE ON THE RADIO!! LISTEN HERE!!!

LISTEN TO US ON FRUITY THOT HERE: FRUITY THOT OUR RADIO SHOW EXPERIENCE: by Sydney Redd Quite recently, we were lucky enough to be featured guests on our friend Matt's radio show at San Francisco State University!! The show is called Fruity Thot, and explores a wide variety of topics from art and culture to identity and empowerment.  We were super nervous at first; Savanna and I had never been on a radio show before and weren't exactly sure what we would talk about.  We met on campus and walked to the studio together, exchanging our internal butterflies and hopeful expectations.  Once we entered the studio, Matt gave us a quick tour and played the playlist we sent him days prior. We put on our headphones and danced to "Genius of Love" by The Tom Tom Club and the ever so iconic "Dirrty" by  Xtina, pumping ourselves up. Once we started the interview the conversation flowed. Matt did a great job of building on our comments and asking us insightfu
